Preferred Majors for this Course: Political Science, Intelligence, Cybersecurity, International Relations, Pre-Law, History. In the midst of World War Two, Winston Churchill praised his spies and codebreakers as "practitioners of ungentlemanly warfare." Today, historians and intelligence specialists suggest these heroes shortened the war by two years and saved as many as 14 million lives. In our, course be prepared to enter the hidden world of spies, domestic terrorists, homeland and cyber security specialists and undercover agents in-training. While we use London, Paris and Omaha Beach to explore how the "dark op" shadowlands of secret missions and spycraft have defined the geo-political landscape of Europe in the modern era. Using historic locations, museums, secret archives and recently de-classified legal documents, we will teach out class all over London and Paris. Our themes will include: 1) the history of spycraft and homeland security systems in the UK and France during periods of war and in response to domestic and international terrorism; 2) the training and psychological background of notable individuals who were highly successful espionage agents working for the UK or French governments in times of war or peace; 3) the training, protocols and tactics of international or domestic agents who have sought to bring terror and death to London and Paris in the name of their own political or cultural goals. 3 credit hours in either Political Science.
