European Culture from Enlightenment to World War Two
Course Details
Preferred Majors for this Course: English, History, Humanities, Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Art, Psychology, Mass Communications Of Gods and Monsters invites you on the intellectual ride of a lifetime. Using an interdisciplinary format that bridges stitches together Art, English and History, our class explores the heart of both London and Paris to understand how the competing poetics and politics of "truth" have battled mightily with each other from the Anglo-Saxon past to the 20th Century. Our mobile class sessions will include sites of deep literary, historic and spiritual meaning. We'll move through time and space--from the storied cobblestones of old London and its haunted holdings of epic armor, architecture and and tradition--to vibrant Paris and its gilded story of Enlightenment, revolution, conquest, war and defeat. From the British Museum to Paris' memorial to the deported Jews of France, we will ask hard and important questions about how we can use the History, Art and Literature of the past to inform our own lives today. Gods and Monsters is limited to 20 students. The course sells out every year, so early applicants only will get this course. 3 credit hours in Art, History or English.
